Product Description
Samsung SM-A022 (Galaxy A02) – MT6357 Power IC Hardware Solution
Samsung SM-A022 (Galaxy A02) is a MediaTek based smartphone, and its main power control is handled by the MT6357 Power IC. In repair work, this IC is very important because almost all power-related functions depend on it. If MT6357 fails, the phone will show dead or unstable behavior.
Role of MT6357 Power IC
The MT6357 Power IC manages power coming from the battery and distributes correct voltage to all major sections of the phone. It supplies power to the processor, RAM, eMMC, display, backlight, camera, audio, and network section. When the power button is pressed, MT6357 starts the power-on sequence. If this IC is faulty, the phone cannot start properly.
Common Problems Seen in SM-A022
From practical experience, these are the most common issues related to MT6357 in Samsung A02:
Phone completely dead, no power ON
No response on power key
Phone restarts again and again
Phone stuck on logo
Very low or zero charging current
MT6357 IC heating immediately after battery insertion
No display or no backlight due to missing voltage
Most of these problems occur after water damage, hard drop, charging short, or power surge.
How to Diagnose MT6357 Power IC
First, check battery voltage. It should be between 3.8V to 4.2V. Then check the main power line (VPH_PWR). If battery voltage is present but the phone is still dead, MT6357 becomes the main suspect.
Using a DC power supply helps a lot. If current does not increase when pressing power key, or if current fluctuates abnormally, it indicates power IC fault. Also check for short circuit around the power IC area using a multimeter.
Visual inspection is important. Corrosion, cracked components, or burned coils near MT6357 can also cause power failure.
Hardware Repair Solution
Sometimes, reflow of the MT6357 IC works if the problem is due to dry solder or loose joints. However, reflow is only a temporary fix and should not be trusted for long-term use.
The permanent solution is MT6357 Power IC replacement. Carefully remove the faulty IC using hot air with proper temperature control. Clean the pads properly, reball the IC or use a new one, and solder it correctly on the board.
After replacement, always:
Check for short circuit
Measure voltage lines
Power ON using DC supply first
Also inspect and replace damaged coils or capacitors near the power IC if needed.
Important Precautions
Always disconnect battery before heating
Do not apply excessive heat
Use proper flux and temperature
Never replace PMIC without confirmation
